At
the hake processing factory in Lüderitz, Namibia, the company has put into
operation a solar park that will provide up to 30% savings in energy.

By
2020, the Group plans to install solar parks at seven of its factories
worldwide.

The
next solar energy facilities to enter operation are the ones located in Arteixo
(A Coruña), Chapela and Porriño (Pontevedra).

Vigo, 16 December 2019.- The Nueva Pescanova Group, in line with its
commitment to a responsible resource management and its contribution to the SDGs,
is moving towards energy transition by incorporating photovoltaic solar energy into
its factories in different countries.

Thus, a 3,132 square meter photovoltaic solar park has been fitted at the Lüderitz
processing plant in Namibia (Africa’s largest hake processor owned by its
subsidiary NovaNam). The second phase that will start in early 2020 and will
extend this facility to reach 13,500 square meters will allow the generation of
approximately 317,000 kilowatts per month and will result in up to 30% energy savings.

According to Ignacio González, CEO of Nueva
Pescanova Group, “the roll-out of the first photovoltaic solar park in our
factories is a milestone for the company: it represents our commitment to reduce
environmental impact and seek new sustainable and non-polluting energy sources”.

By 2020, the Nueva Pescanova Group plans
to complete the installation of solar parks, to reduce CO2 emissions,
at seven of its factories around the world, taking advantage of the large roof
surface of these processing plants. The photovoltaic stations in Arteixo (A
Coruña), Chapela and Porriño (Pontevedra) will start operating in the first
quarter of year 2020.

The company has more than 226 CSR projects focused on achieving the SDGs in
the different communities in which it carries out its activities. The World
Benchmarking Alliance that measures performance of seafood companies compared
to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN, has ranked the Nueva
Pescanova Group as the first fishing company in the Seafood Stewardship Index, and fifth when considered the seafood sector as a whole.

Nueva Pescanova presents
their commitment to the SDGs and announces their adherence to the commitments
of the United Nations Global Compact

By joining this cause, the Nueva Pescanova Group makes an official commitment to the ten principles of the Global Compact and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The company has participated in the event “Sustainable Aquaculture and Food Safety” of the COP25 to present Pescanova Blue, their seal of sustainability that works on four principles: the planet, people, product, and communities

The Nueva Pescanova Group has 226 CSR projects in four of the 20 countries where it operates. It has been recognized as the fishing company in the world with the highest contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and fifth in the general calculation of companies in the seafood product sector, according to the Seafood Stewardship Index (SSI) drafted by the World Benchmarking Alliance (World Benchmarking Alliance).

Vigo, on December 5, 2019.- This morning, the Nueva Pescanova Group participated in one of
the events hosted by the COP25 called “Sustainable Aquaculture and Food
Safety”, highlighting the commitment that companies must assume in the face of growing
demand for seafood products. “Here at Nueva Pescanova, we understand fishing
and aquaculture to be complementary activities in the challenge of ensuring
food of a marine origin for our society. A society that will exceed 8,000
million inhabitants in the next decade and which demands healthy and nutritious
products,” said Ángel Matamoro, the CSR director of the Group.

These figures
mean we must supply the population without compromising the sustainability of
natural resources. Therefore, the Nueva Pescanova Group has developed its
Pescanova Blue sustainability seal, based on four principles: respect for the
Planet, development of People, commitment to nutrition and the well-being of
society through its Products, and the improvement of the quality of life of the
Communities where it is present.

The company wanted to take advantage of this situation to announce
that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of human
rights, labor standards, the environment, and the fight against corruption, as
well as the adoption of measures to support the objectives of the United
Nations embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In fact, the
company has more than 226 CSR projects focused on achieving the SDGs in the
different communities where it operates. It has been recognized as the fishing
company in the world with the highest contribution to the SDGs, and fifth in
the general calculation of companies in the seafood product sector, according
to theSeafood
Stewardship Index (SSI)drafted by the World Benchmarking Alliance (World
Benchmarking Alliance).

Furthermore, the Nueva Pescanova Group has also decided to join the
“Our Only Future” campaign, with the goal of reducing the temperature of the
Planet by 1.5º. As Matamoro concluded his presentation, “climate change is
undoubtedly a key risk for the production and availability of products, and
companies have an obligation to adapt and anticipate these risks. Only the sum
of many individual actions will strengthen the resilience of ecosystems that
will lead us to success.”

The United Nations Global Compact is the biggest corporate
sustainability initiative in the world. Currently it has more than 13,000
entities involved in more than 160 countries and has more than 70 local
networks. In Spain, more than 1,530 organizations have signed the Global
Compact, which makes it the Local Network with the largest number of entities
involved and, therefore, the most important one in the world.

British actor Clive
Arrindell, sporting a mustache, leads the new Pescanova Christmas Campaign
“Choose Whiskers”.

Pescanova looked for the
most beloved Christmas icon and according to a study carried out on 2,000
people, Spaniards wanted the “Calvo” (bald man) to return this Christmas, ahead
of Raphael, Ramón García and Anne Igartiburu, or Cristina Pedroche.

Madrid, on December 4, 2019. Pescanova, a leading company in seafood
products, once again surprises Spaniards by bringing back the Christmas “Calvo”
(bald man) as the lead in their “Choose Whiskers” campaign. After Vicente del
Bosque shaving his mustache last Christmas, Pescanova this year is bringing
back the most beloved Christmas icon for Spaniards: the “Calvo”.

It isn’t Christmas without whiskers

This campaign is
inspired by values and the emotionality infused in the Christmas spirit of old
classics; but with a touch of humor that sets Pescanova apart in its last
campaigns and which sends a clear message: it isn’t Christmas without whiskers.
And in this case, starring the most beloved Christmas personality for
Spaniards, with a new look. The “Calvo” is back with a mustache, like the prawn
Rodolfo, the identity and quality symbol of Pescanova. All this in a
family-oriented and magical setting that makes it easy to connect with and
impress the audience.

The Christmas “Calvo”, the returning favorite

This year
Pescanova takes it a step further, asking Spaniards about the people they
wanted to return this Christmas. The conclusion was clear and overwhelming in
the study carried out on 2,000 people: Spaniards want the “Calvo” to return. In
fact, half of those surveyed between 25 and 34 years old said so. The character
represented by Clive Arrindell was also the favorite when given the option
among other candidates. In fact, 3 out of every 4 citizens put him in first
place for returning for Christmas.

In Autonomous
Communities such as Andalusia, Castile and León, Catalonia, the Valencian
Community, Extremadura, and Madrid, the score asking for the return of the
“Calvo” was even higher. In the case of Catalonia, just like nation-wide, young
people between the age of 25 and 34 were those who most wanted him to return. Meanwhile, in the Valencian
Community, those over 35 were those who most preferred the “Calvo”.

Juan Viñas,
Pescanova Marketing Director, states that: “At Pescanova, we were looking
for a Christmas icon for our next campaign. And for us, it was key to check with Spaniards and find out what iconic
Christmas personality that wanted to come back”.

Behind the
“Calvo”, Spaniards named other celebrities such as Raphael, Ramón García, Anne
Igartiburu and Cristina Pedroche among their favorites for Christmas.

This study has allowed us to connect with our citizens, who also demanded humor and values in the campaigns, an active listening that now comes to fruition: “We at Pescanova want to once again surprise our audience with a lot of freshness and humor, like we did in 2018. Last year, we shaved Vicente Del Bosque’s mustache, and what better this year than to bring back Spaniards’ favorite icon: the “Christmas Calvo”, to spread his magic, to spread whiskers”.

About
Pescanova’s Rodolfo

Rodolfos are prawns which are known for an unbeatable texture and flavor, thanks to a meticulous elaboration process which is groundbreaking and unique in the world. Rodolfos are selected one-by-one, cooked, packaged keeping them fully intact, due to which their appearance and texture cannot be beat, their long and intact whiskers being their guarantee of quality. Rodolfos will once again by the main product of the Pescanova campaign.

an audiovisual project about the impact of this multinational’s activity in

and dreams realized which takes place in the small coastal town of Lüderitz,
which has been reborn thanks to the promotion of the Spanish multinational through
its subsidiaries Novanam and Lalandii.

This is the

About “The
City Born from the Sea”

“The City Born
From the Sea” is an audiovisual project including a
30-minute documentary and 7 clips lasting 1 minute which narrate the
progress of Lüderitz. The protagonist is Nelago Kwedhi, the first woman from
Namibia to receive the title of ship captain. The documentary shows the path
she follows from her birthplace in the north of the country, in Ondanwga, to
Lüderitz, guided by the call of the sea in search of a better future. It is a
story of overcoming, of dreams realized, of respect for nature and of the
values with which Nueva Pescanova identifies itself as a company.

Lüderitz, a small
abandoned town in Namibia between the desert and the sea, has been reborn
thanks to the momentum of the fishing industry after the arrival of the Nueva
Pescanova Group almost 30 years ago. Since then, the company has boosted its
growth through the development of infrastructures and services to cover the
entire community, making it a groundbreaking company in terms of equality and sustainability. This
fact, along with the development of the fishing sector, has turned Lüdertiz
into a land of opportunity where people and the progress of their communities come first. The life of
this town has been reactivated and it now offers work, education and
opportunities to people who decide to grow within it.

More than 2,000
people are currently working for Nueva Pescanova in Namibia, which offers
scholarships for the children of its employees and has built homes,
kindergartens and playgrounds. In Lüderitz, in addition to fishing ships, about
1,500 people work in the Nueva Pescanova Group factory, which has become the
largest hake processing center in Africa. The initiative is part of the
Corporate Social Responsibility policy of the Group, thanks to which it has
developed a total of 226 projects and has become established as the top fishing
company for its contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs), according to the Seafood Stewardship Index (SSI) drafted
by the World Benchmarking Alliance.

Lüderitz, November 15, 2019.- Today the people of the town of Lüderitz welcomed the first brand new build deep sea fishing trawler since Namibia’s Independence, the Lalandii 1, to its home town.

This investment of 160 Million
Namibian Dollars was made by the Lüderitz based fishing company, Lalandii
Holdings. The main purpose of the vessel is to feed the value-added factory in Lüderitz
where 300 of Lalandii Holdings’ people pack in the globally renowned seafood
brand of Pescanova.

This investment is part of the
announced NovaNam-Lalandii strategic plan, which committed to an investment
programme of 480 Million Namibian Dollars for three brand new build vessels
between 2019 and 2020. The other two new build fishing trawlers have been
invested in, by Lalandii’s associated company, NovaNam, which will cost 320
Million Namibian Dollars.

The construction of this new fishing vessel has at all times kept true to the crucial aspect of sustainability. In this respect, the vessel’s construction and its operations will directly meet 10 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as promulgated by the United Nations. With this investment, Lalandii Holdings assists Namibia to stake and enhance its claim locally, regionally and internationally as an active promoter of these Sustainable Development Goals.

Lüderitz is a town that relies heavily on the fishing industry – with this new vessel investment, Lalandii Holdings is contributing towards the FAO’s Blue Growth initiative as well as the Blue Economy in building and sustaining a vibrant coastal community in Lüderitz. This vessel will contribute to enhancing the sustainable use of the Namibian aquatic resources whilst also simultaneously improving the social, economic and environmental benefits for the Lüderitz community.

With this new vessel, Lalandii
Holdings has confirmed its commitment to its people and their employment, to
improve livelihoods, food security and nutrition whilst at the same time
supporting sound fisheries management practices and a healthy marine ecosystem.
In other words, the emphasis is on placing the community at the heart of its
business.

The construction of this vessel has kept true to the four pillars of the strategy of Lalandii Holdings in terms of its Corporate Social Responsibility – these pillars are People, Planet, Product and Communities. The vessel’s construction focused on leveraging technology and innovative equipment with operational and consumption efficiencies as well as carbon footprint reduction. The wellbeing of people onboard was a primary concern during construction and full adhesion to the International Labour Organisation’s Convention 188 was ensured.

It is the most modern deep-sea fishing trawler in Namibia at the present time, with the added and important attractiveness of this highly advanced technological vessel being that it will make the fishing industry a viable proposition for the youth to make a career within.

and it stands out for its engagement with local communities, governance,
     and circular management approach.

Vigo, 24 October 2019.- The Nueva Pescanova Group has been recognized as the world’s top
fishing company for its commitment to meet
the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) and ranks fifth in the overall benchmark of seafood
companies, according to Seafood Stewardship Index (SSI) launched by World Benchmarking Alliance.

For the preparation of this Index, WAS
measured the performance of the 30 largest seafood companies in the world
benchmarked to those SDGs more closely related to a seafood business, with the
aim of assisting them in building more sustainable and inclusive supply chains
in the seafood sector.

The Nueva Pescanova Group is firmly
committed to create a positive impact where it operates and understands the
relevance of SDGs as guidelines to achieve a sustainable development. In this
sense, the Group aligns its business strategy with these goals, and measures
its contribution to meet the 2030 Agenda.

It is the only Spanish company in
the Index, and according to the results obtained, it stands out on aspects such
as governance and management of stewardship practices, taking into account stakeholders’
concerns, and a circular management approach, by applying standards for waste
management as well as for a reduction in food waste, in addition to its
commitment to the communities in which it operates, having enforced 226
projects in four countries.

According to Ignacio González, CEO of
Nueva Pescanova: “We are really proud of being the top fishing company of the 30 largest seafood companies in the
world committed to meeting to SDGs, for performing best in key areas such as our
commitment to the sustainability of natural resources and to the communities in
which we operate. This recognition brings to light the company’s efforts in these
areas and encourages us to continue to grow transparently and
sustainably”.

The Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy is key for the development of its business and is based on four pillars: respect for the Planet; the personal and professional development of the People who make up the Nueva Pescanova Group; its market engagement through its Products; and the contribution to improving the livelihood of the Communities in which it is present, without neglecting the principles of business ethics, institutional integrity and regulatory compliance.

Vigo, on October
9, 2019.- The ship Lalandii 1, the first of the seven ships commissioned
by the Nueva Pescanova Group to refurbish part of its fleet, has this afternoon
begun its journey towards Namibia. It left the
Astilleros Armón Vigo shipyards and, before starting its journey, went to
Chapela (Redondela, Pontevedra) to say goodbye to the team of the headquarters
of the Nueva Pescanova Group.

This ship is the first of the three fresh fish ships which will work
for the affiliates of the company, NovaNam and Lalandii, in Namibia and which
will be dedicated to processing hake. As part of the same project, another four
freezer ships are also included for catching lobster, for the affiliate
Pescamar in Mozambique. These new ships shall join the fleet of more than 70
ships which will be operating in the southern hemisphere.

The company has allocated an investment of 42.5 million euros to the
project, and is creating around 200 jobs in Galicia, turning it into the most
important contract made in Spain by a company in the fishing sector.

The ship, one of the most advanced ships of the company, has been
built by Astilleros Armón in Galicia. For its design, virtual reality was used
as a tool to design and constantly improve the ship during its construction, a
pioneering process in the sector. Furthermore, multiple professionals, from
ship captains to chief engineers, petty officers, and even retirees who know
the characteristics of the Namibian fishing grounds to perfection have
collaborated in the design of the Lalandii 1.

Within the framework of its participation at the fair, it celebrated the signing of its Fishing and Aquaculture Responsibility, and Development Aid and Cooperation policies

It presented its Sustainability program Pescanova Blue, which includes the set of initiatives for responsible action by Grupo Nueva Pescanova in matters of supply, operations, labor relations, and development of the communities where it operates

Vigo, October 1, 2019.- Grupo Nueva Pescanova has reasserted its Sustainability policy
by signing commitments with new policies which will govern its actions in
matters of Fishing, Aquaculture, and Development Aid and Cooperation. The event
took place within the framework of the company’s participation in Conxemar, the
international fair on frozen seafood products which is held this week in Vigo.

These Fishing and Aquaculture policies adopt the principles of the
FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries by committing to conservation and
sustainable use of natural resources, as well as certification and regulatory
compliance. Among other things, these documents include the key measures of the
Group to fight against illegal fishing or contamination of the marine
environment, and what its premises are in matters of sustainable aquaculture or
animal well-being. In addition, they establish the bases in connection to labor
responsibility, biodiversity and circular economics in fishery byproducts.

Through the signing of this Development Aid and Cooperation policy,
the Group’s commitment to the communities in which it operates, including their
development through job creation, is also established, through the creation of
education, support, care of the natural environment, and humanitarian aid.

In line with its commitment to sustainable development, this year
the stand of Grupo Nueva Pescanova at the fair is presided over by a noteworthy
large label which presents the sustainability program Pescanova Blue.
This program is the company’s operational response to the four strategic
pillars that make up its Corporate Social Responsibility plan: Planet, People,
Product and Communities. In this way, Pescanova Blue includes the set of
initiatives designed to conduct and document the Group’s responsible action on
matters of supply and responsible operations, labor relations, contribution to
the community, and compliance with ethical and legal requirements.

The company is also committed to the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs), which it incorporates in all its activities: fishing, aquaculture,
processing, and marketing of seafood products in all the countries where it is
present and currently it has a total of 226 sustainable development projects.

Vigo (Spain), July 23, 2019. The Nueva Pescanova Group has celebrated the ceremony of delivery and christening of the vessel Lalandii 1, built by Armon Shipyard, at its headquarters in Vigo (Spain). Today is an extraordinary landmark in the history of the Group: the completion of the construction of the first of the seven vessels planned to renew its fleet in Namibia and Mozambique, a project for which the company had earmarked an investment of 42.5 million euros and is generating some 200 jobs in Galicia.

Lalandii 1 is the first of the three 50-meter-long wetfish trawlers that the company is building for hake processing and which will operate for its Novanam and Lalandii subsidiaries in Namibia. Other four 32-meter freezer trawlers for shrimp fishing will operate for Pescamar the Group’s subsidiary in Mozambique.

The event was attended by authorities such as Alberto Núñez Feijóo, President of the Xunta de Galicia (Regional Government of Galicia); Hilaria Mukapuli, Mayor of Lüderitz (Namibia), who began her professional career working at the Pescanova factory in Lüderitz, and now was chosen to be the godmother of the Lalandii 1; Digna Rivas, Mayor of Redondela; the Fisheries and the Economy & Industry authorities of the regional government, Rosa Quintana and Francisco Conde, respectively; and Juan Ignacio Gandarias, General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Management of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, among others.

In his speech, the President of the Xunta de Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, said: “We are living a very important moment for Galicia. Today is a day to talk about trust in two strategic sectors for the Galician economy: the fishing and shipbuilding industries. The project to build seven new vessels not only involve a great investment but a huge workload. Nueva Pescanova is a company that is used to meeting targets and I appreciate that this contract is the most important one that has been entered by a Spanish company in the fishing industry”. During his speech, he also highlighted the commitment of the Nueva Pescanova Group in Namibia where “it employs more than 2,000 people and conducts several actions such as scholarship programs and nurseries for employees’ children, among others”.

Jacobo González-Robatto, Chairman of the Nueva Pescanova Group, stated that: “The christening of the Lalandii 1 represents a milestone for the Group: we are willing to grow with confidence from a solid position. The creation of jobs is of great importance for the company and today we are not only celebrating the delivery of a new vessel but also the confirmation of our commitment to create local employment wherever we operate and to contribute to the economic and social development of the communities where we are present”.

The completion of the construction of Lalandii 1 is a new step after the launch of the freezer vessel “Ponta Matirre” this month, which will be part of Pescamar’s fleet in Mozambique. The company’s most advanced vessels are being built in Galicia, in Vigo and Burela (Lugo), by Armon Shipyards and will incorporate high energy efficient engines, improvements to the on-board processing equipment and greater comfort for the crews.

In fact, innovation is ingrained in Nueva Pescanova Group’s DNA, which is shared by more than 10,000 employees worldwide. An example of this was the development of a revolutionary technology, back in 1960, for on board freezing and the birth of the world’s first freezer vessel. This milestone changed the fishing industry globally. At present, the Nueva Pescanova Group has a fleet of 70 vessels operating in the Southern Hemisphere.

Vigo, 18th July 2019.- The Nueva Pescanova Group,
headquartered in Galicia, has been able to close the reproduction cycle of
octopus in aquaculture, after decades of research at different centers and
companies around the world. The company has allowed for the octopuses born in
aquaculture to not only reach their adult age but also to start reproducing in
an environment outside of their natural habitat.

Specifically, the Pescanova research
team is working with 50 octopuses born in aquaculture in 2018, from the common
octopus variety (Octopus vulgaris). This
species is the most consumed in Spain and is produced overall in the Atlantic
Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the area of Mauritania. The research was launched by the Spanish Oceanographic
Institute (Instituto Español de Oceanografía, IEO), which achieved the survival
of juvenile specimens born in aquaculture and, once having reached an exclusive
agreement about the patent, Pescanova moved forward with the research at their
facilities. The octopuses, of which half are female, have reached adulthood
and one of them has already laid some eggs, which she will be taking care of
for approximately one month, when they hatch and the octopuses will be born.

According to Ricardo Tur, Principal Investigator on
Cephalopods at Pescanova, “the octopus requires very specific marine
conditions for development, such as the availability of food and optimal
oceanographic factor connected to temperature, salinity, ocean currents, and
the animal’s well-being”. In fact, the survival rate of a wild octopus is
0.0001% while, with the results that Pescanova is obtaining until now, this figure
is estimated to be raised to 50% in aquaculture.

The objective of the
company is to continue exploring options in the face of the future marketing of
octopus, as a response to the high international demand in the last few years,
which has caused a growing scarcity of wild octopus and, therefore, a
sustainability problem in the marine environment. As stated by the CEO of the company, Ignacio González, “we will continue to research how to continue
improving the well-being of the octopuses, studying and replicating their
natural habitat, with the expectation to be able to sell aquaculture octopus
starting in the year 2023”.

International benchmark in aquaculture

The cultivation of
octopuses will be one of the main lines of study of the Pescanova Biomarine Center, one of the international R&D&I
centers which will open its doors in O Grove (Pontevedra, Spain) in 2020, and
whose team has already starting their researching work at the facilities of Nueva
Pescanova in Chapela (Vigo). As explained by the general director of the Pescanova Biomarine Center, David Chavarrías,
“according to the FAO, currently 50% of the fish consumed around the world comes
from aquaculture, and it is expected that this figure will reach 66% in 2030”.

The company is firmly committed to aquaculture
as a method to reduce pressure on fishing grounds and ensure sustainable, safe,
healthy, and controlled resources, complementing fishing. In fact, it has spent
decades working on the efficient development of sustainable extractive fishing
and the farming of different species, minimizing the impact on the marine

CURIOSITIES

The life cycle of octopuses is about
2-3 years

The female that has already laid
eggs is called “Lourditas” due to the fact that the researchers of the project joked with the
phrase “miracles, to Lourdes”, referencing
Lourdes, a Catholic place of pilgrimage in France with legends of miraculous
healings, thinking that they would not manage to close the cycle after they had
been trying for decades with organisms from different parts of the world

The
“father” of the eggs that will hatch
in some weeks is called “Goliath”

The main countries that consume octopus are Spain, Italy, Greece, and Japan, although
its demand is growing in the USA and
other countries, where this species is ever more popular.
