Nueva Pescanova celebrates the delivery of its new vessel for Mozambique, the “Ponta Timbue”

  •   Featuring highly energy efficient engines and new generation equipment, the new fleet will be a turning point for Pescamar in terms of production and sustainability.

Vigo, 12 March 2021. Less than a month after the “Ponta Macalonga” began its voyage to Beira, the Nueva Pescanova Group celebrated this morning, at its headquarters in Chapela (Pontevedra), the delivery ceremony of its new vessel for Pescamar, its subsidiary in Mozambique. The vessel is the “Ponta Timbue”, a modern freezer beam trawler that in the next few days will leave for its destination to join the prawn fishing campaign. The ceremony was attended by José María Benavent and Ignacio González, Chairman and CEO of the Nueva Pescanova Group, respectively; as well as Luis Quinteiro, Bishop of the Diocese of Tui-Vigo.

Just like its predecessors, the “Ponta Macalonga” and the “Ponta Matirre”, the “Ponta Timbue” features highly energy-efficient engines and new-generation equipment. The new fleet marks a turning point for Pescamar in terms of production, thanks to improved on-board processing systems; and sustainability, by reducing energy consumption and emissions.

Shipyards Armón has been responsible for its construction using virtual reality in the design, an innovative technology which allows the entire interior of the vessel to be visualised beforehand. The Nueva Pescanova Group has been a trailblazer in the world fishing sector in its commitment to these innovative tools which have led to more efficient and highly comfortable vessels for the crew.

The 32-metre-long Ponta Timbue, which can accommodate up to 22 crew members, also features a cabin for trainees. This makes it one of the venues for the maritime-fisheries training programme launched by the Group, in collaboration with the Public-Private Partnership for Development (PPPD).

Through the incorporation of these new vessels, the company contributes to 10 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, those related to responsible production and consumption, innovation, economic growth and employment creation, and the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources.
