Contribution to sustainable development

Aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda

At the Nueva Pescanova Group we recognize the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a relevant guide to help meeting the challenges of sustainable development.

The 2030 Agenda defines the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and explicitly recognize the role of the private sector as an engine of productivity, inclusive economic growth, and job creation.

In this sense, we work to align our business strategy with the 2030 Agenda, to measure our contribution to the SDGs, and therefore promoting a positive impact to all around us.

UN Global Compact

As participating members of the Spanish Global Compact Network we have joined the voluntary Global Compact initiative of the United Nations to implement universal principles of sustainability and take measures in support of the UN objectives.

We have signed and adopted the 10 Principles of the Global Compact regarding Human Rights, Labour Rights, Environment and Fight against Corruption, and incorporating them into our strategy, governance and daily actions. Therefore, we establish a culture of integrity that compels us to achieve our basic responsibilities towards the people and the planet.

These 10 Principles are derived from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Declaration of the International Labour Organization on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

Sustainable Ocean Principles

We are aware of the responsibility shared among companies to take the necessary actions to ensure a healthy and productive ocean. That is why we have adhered to the Sustainable Ocean Principles, with the aim of promoting the well-being of the ocean for present and future generations.

We make these 9 principles part of our strategy, and we share the 5 goals for a healthy and productive ocean, in particular regarding sustainable seafood, for which we work to bring to market full traceability for all our seafood products. with the PESCANOVA brand, whether they come from fishing or aquaculture, from our own production or from third-party suppliers.

We have joined the Global Dialogue Seafood Traceability (GDST) in October 2020, and we have adopted their GDST 1.0 standard for immediate and progressive implementation in our products until the end of 2024. We are working with IBM in the implementation of the standard in their IBM Food Trust platform.

Climate ambition

We share the UN Global Compact’s vision that we are facing a climate emergency with irreversible impacts for the people and the natural systems that sustain us, and we echo the call of the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, to all parties interested in building “a truly global coalition for carbon neutrality by 2050” and forging a more sustainable and equitable world.

For this reason, we have adhered to the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and UN Global Compact, by signing our commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. We launched a decarbonization plan to improve our energy efficiency, move towards consuming renewable and cleaner energy, and in reducing our GHG emissions.

Sustainable finances

We have joined the Global Compact’s CFO Taskforce for the SDGs – a multisectoral global platform for dialogue between the Chief Financial Officers of various responsible companies, whose objective is to promote innovative strategies to mobilize sustainable finance and scalable investments to achieve the SDGs.

Contribution to sustainable development

We are convinced of the role the SDGs play in society and economy to improve the environment and the quality of life of people. We have contributed with creative and innovative solutions with a positive impact for sustainable development.
